That’s right Poodles, it’s time to celebrate the death of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), that Clinton-era pile of poopy legislation that barred the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriage.
Now that the Supreme Court has struck down DOMA, married gay couple will enjoy the more than 1,000 federal benefits that married straight couples have enjoyed for years. Some of those include: Social Security survivor benefits, filing joint Federal taxes, health insurance taxes breaks, and a plethora of others.
While the fight’s not over, we are still waiting for nearly three quarters of the country to legalize same-sex marriage, The New York Times has a cute little article on some of the changes we can expect our married brothers and sisters to enjoy now that the veil of DOMA has been lifted.
